Stem Cell Therapy: What To Expect

*Note: For the investigational use of Adipose Derived Stem Cells (ADSC’s) for clinical research and deployment.

There is no “it will get worse before it gets better” with stem cell therapy. Dr. Todd Malan

Stem cell therapy is typically completed in 1-2 visits to our Scottsdale medical facility with minimal discomfort and downtime. For most patients, the healing process begins almost immediately and symptoms improve gradually over the coming weeks and months. Our Scottsdale medical facility is designed with the patient experience in mind and offers compassionate consultative care delivered by an experienced staff.

Treatment has two phases, after which Dr. Malan will follow up with patients to monitor progress. We encourage an ongoing doctor-patient dialogue as we both learn more about how stem cells are addressing symptoms and disease progression.

Harvesting of Stem Cells

Dr. Malan and the Center for Regenerative Medicine uses advanced techniques for the harvesting of stem cells from adipose tissue. We continue to be a leader in the U.S. in the incorporation of procedures in use around the world for the benefit of our patients.

Our techniques are less invasive than the traditional use of liposuction and will cause only minimal discomfort both during and after the procedure. Patients can expect minor tenderness or swelling at the harvest sites, which will dissipate in a couple of days.

The harvested cells are then spun down in our office and added to a matrix solution which will be injected in areas to be treated.

Stem Cell Injection

The stem cell matrix solution will be injected into areas of the body where inflammation, scar tissue or nerve damage has been identified. There is minimal to no risk of side effects from the injection, which uses a patient’s own cells and a biocompatible fluid.

For most patients, changes in their condition will begin to be noticeable in the first few days. Over time, as the stem cells work to restore normal cellular function and decrease inflammation, symptoms of pain, immobility or other side effects of the treated condition or disease will diminish. While not considered a cure, the results of a stem cell treatment are both natural and permanent.

Recovery After Treatment

It may be more accurate to say that after treatment with stem cells, patients begin to recover from their specific disease or condition- not from the stem cell therapy. Stem cells enhance the body’s natural healing process, which has been impacted by your specific condition or disease. Aside from the minor discomfort mentioned above, that is related to the harvesting of cells or the injection sites, patients begin to experience improvements in their quality of life as the stem cells do their job.

Dr. Malan and our staff are dedicated to helping patients get back to enjoying life with less pain, increased mobility and relief from the symptoms and side effects of disease, medications or injury. We maintain an open line of communication before, during and after your stem cell therapy to support your ongoing recovery and learn more about how we can improve treatments and the patient experience.
